What are time restrictions on renovating an HDB

Weekdays and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. are the only times when renovation work should be done. On Sundays and public holidays, no work can be completed. Persistent, loud drilling in HDB flats will make your neighbors dislike you before you’ve even moved in. So please try to be considerate because, let’s face it, no one wants to hear drilling on a Sunday morning when they’re trying to sleep in.

Heavier, noisier work, such as demolishing walls, removing floor finishes, and excessive HDB drilling time, must cease by 5.00 p.m. on weekdays; it is not permitted on weekends, public holidays, or the eve of major public holidays.

What time can renovation work start for HDB

First you need an HDB renovation permit which normally takes up to three weeks to be approved, though the approval process may be shortened if the renovation work does not include wall hacking or reconfiguring toilets or sinks.

Nonetheless, it is best to apply for a HDB renovation permit early and not wait until the last minute!  When you obtain the HDB renovation permit, HDB will give you a deadline for when the work must be completed.

For newly completed BTO flats, you will have three months from the date of the HDB renovation permit to complete the relevant works. If your flat is an older resale, you’ll have a month from the date of the HDB renovation permit to complete the renovations.
